Hey everyone - last post of the night. Should I consider Fiberglass caps? I read in some places that these aren't recommended because of the torque issues for the lugs on the wheels. But don't the caps just 'plug' into the wheel? Isn't that why folks suggest wireties?
Do the lugs actually hold it on? If the lugs don't interfere, than howcome so many people suggest not using them?
Looking forward to your insights once again! THANK YOU!

The original caps are getting real hard to find these days so fiberglass is an alternative. Some people have some really crappy ones for sale on ebay that do run the lugs all the way in, (dumb) however there are a few people that do make good replicas one person in-particular is Joe Kidd (username) KIDD, there are a couple others that I can't remember right now. The factory caps can be flawed. That is why you see so many trans ams with the turbo casts, but no caps. They have a history of flying off.
To secure them to your car, just drill a few holes (4-5). I drilled mine on the tabs that circle the rear of the cap (one hole per tab). Then zip ties are run through the hole, and around the fins, and pulled tight from behind the wheel, with the excess material cut away.
You do this with the wheel off the car, then you place the wheel and cap as one unit, back on the car.
I recently had my caps repainted (and if my car domain page wasn't acting up, friggin car domain), you could see how they came out.
If I ever lose one, I won't bother finding any originals anymore, I'll go with reproduction ones.
Joe KIDD makes really good, quality ones. His actually snap in place like the original ones, although he does recommend zip ties. It's just cheap insurance.
The good thing about fiberglass ones, is that they don't dent, like factory ones.
Joey.

Then there's Don Colie and Joao (Knight Passions). Joao (I think) was redesigning his so they fit more like a factory cap. There's plusses and minuses to either way, factory or vendors. I guess the choice is ultimately yours. Yes, the factory caps are becoming hard to find, but with at least three other fiberglass parts vendors making caps out of fiberglass, who would play the "search and find" game for factory caps? Unless you get them with your wheels.

Thanks guys. I've reached out to KIDD an will also look JOAO up. Sounds like Fiberglass is probably the easier / better way to go. I appreciate your insights!

Yes, very soon I will also offer 15 inch replica hubcaps and they will have exactly the same mounting points / brackets as the original ones, so you can easily click them onto the rim.
They will be made from a fiberglass resin, so not made from layers of fiberglass, like a dashboard or front nose is made for example.
I think this is a pretty unique way to make them, because as far as I know..nobody has used this method yet.
As soon as they are available, I will post it here on the forum with some nice photos from them!

I just heard from the fiberglass company that the mold is probably finished by the end of next week, so about two weeks the first hubcap can be made!

Thanks!! I'm also very happy with the way it turned out. I hardly can't wait to see it in real. I don't know the price yet where I'm going to sell them for, because I still need to hear from the fiberglass company what they are going to charge me for it. But as soon as I know, I wil let you know!

(front nose costs $700,- and it's now being made in the US itself, so no expensive shipping costs anymore!)
